Sustainability

Sustainability is the new luxury and we are deeply committed to minimizing our impact on the environment and preserving the way of life and traditions of the surrounding local communities. Guests are invited to participate in a sustainability tour of the property to see our operations first-hand.

Design

Alila Villas Uluwatu embraces an environmentally sustainable framework designed by renowned Singapore architectural firm WOHA.

WOHA’s unique design principles prioritize sustainability as much as world-class design through the use of recycled, organic, and local materials like reclaimed ulin, a wood native to the forests of Kalimantan known for its natural beauty and durability against the elements.

Reuse & Recycle

The resort is committed to reducing waste production and reusing, recycling, and upcycling.

Our signature upcycling program crafts glasses from glass bottles, tiles from broken glass and ceramics, and pots from buggy tires.

Plastics Initiative

Alila Villas Uluwatu is a proud signatory of the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative.

Led by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), in collaboration with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the initiative unites the tourism sector to take concerted action to address the root causes of plastic pollution.

A Community Effort

It takes a village to ensure that no waste produced becomes pollution.

The resort’s waste management system’s success results from a collaborative effort between our in-house Sustainability Lab and partnerships with local community businesses and organizations, creating positive situations for all. Beyond its own waste management, Alila Villas Uluwatu also collaborates with Parongpong RAW Lab, a private research institute from Parongpong Village, West Bandung, to create a positive impact solution for cigarette butt waste pollution.

Spreading the Word

Everyone has a part to play in creating a better future.

By communicating our sustainability efforts through social media channels, we aim to inspire. Learn more about Alila Villas Uluwatu’s sustainability efforts since day one on YouTube.
